My name is Kate and I am a Paediatric Intensive Care Nurse at Sydney Kids.

Having visited Tanzania each March for the past 3 years I am going again to share my knowledge and skills with an exceptionally talented and resourceful bunch of Tanzanian nurses who are so keen to learn how to look after children who have had cardiac surgery, each year we endeavour to operate on 16-20 kids in a marathon 7 operating days. We provide complete 'Fix" operation for kids born with heart disease. The improvements each year have been fantastic and they are very close to being able to look after this tricky group of patients independently. 

Open Heart International is a humanitarian agency who facilitates surgical best practice in disadvantaged communities so that the help we provide last lifetimes.

As a team made up of surgeons, anaestheists, theatre nurses, intensivist, ICU nurses, ward nurses, a physiotherapist and a biomedical engineer we will be supporting the Tanzanian staff to provide life saving surgery for the children of Tanzania.
